The story
Datavault AI is launching a Josh Gibson Coin and broader NIL strategy in 2026 to honor the Negro Leagues legend, using Web 3.0 technology for digital collectibles and fan engagement. A 1:1 dividend of these tokens is scheduled for distribution around April 30, 2026 to eligible shareholders.
I designed the 3D coin itself with Keith Tomcyck, sculpting the portrait relief, the rim language, and the back-face composition so the artifact reads as a tribute first and a digital collectible second. The brief was reverence, a piece that earns its place next to Gibson's name in the Hall.
Honest take, I disagree with this being spun out as a meme coin. I find that framing distasteful. Josh Gibson's legacy deserves more than speculative volatility. I stand fully behind the work and the art I created here, and behind the intent of honoring a Negro Leagues legend properly. The financial wrapper around it is not the part of the story I'd choose to amplify.
